Dancing Is A Liberating Experience: Aakanksha Bhargava

The relocation industry in India has drastically changed over the years. From a makeshift service provided by local and largely highly unorganised players, it has now slowly shifted to more professional players like PMR. Aakanksha Bhargava (29), the only woman in the country leading a move management company like PMR, is also an accomplished kathak dancer.

Dancing has always been my passion. The first memory of me is of my ghungroos at an age when I couldn't even lift them! I started my training/learning of kathak when I was 3 years old. Since then my love and attachment to dance became an integral part of my life

I have always been very passionate about dance, even when I was growing up. I identified with dancing, because I started learning kathak at a very young age. Dance or any other form of passion teaches one to be a committed. My guruji, Bhupender Gangani from the Jaipur gharana taught me everything I know about kathak. He has been my biggest source of inspiration and I went on to attain a ‘visharad’ in kathak.

I feel dancing is the recipe for happiness. I feel it gives one the ability to express one’s innermost feelings freely. Dancing transports me to another world completely where all that matters is my music and my soul. Now, I am trying my hand at something new, I’ve recently started learning salsa.

Apart from my guruji, I am a die hard fan of Madhuri Dixit. Growing up, I remember practicing her dance steps every now and then. Whether it was a school event or a college dance fest, I would just step up and participate.

My passion for dancing helped me to be elected as the choreography president in my third year at Hindu College. Being a choreography president taught me my first leadership lesson. Competing with different colleges of Delhi University and winning has been a great learning for me. It taught me patience, diligence, commitment and love all of which I practice even today while running my own business. It taught me how to keep everyone as a team above myself.  These days it's quite hard to follow a routine, and even harder to balance one’s work and passion. I dance whenever I get an opportunity.

I don’t have a long list of achievements, since I started working when I was just 21 years old. But as choreography president, my team won many dance fest competitions beating colleges including Lady Shri Ram (LSR), Gargi, Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) to name a few. I also did many group and individual performances at Triveni Kala Sangam, Shri Ram Centre and Siri Fort Auditorium.

I don’t collect any memorabilia but I do love watching dance performances whenever I get a chance. Since, I enjoy travelling I have visited many cities where I have watched various native dance performances. That apart, I have watched renowned dance performances including Broadway shows at New York and ballets. I have been also lucky to have watched La Cirque du Soleil, and I recall not blinking even once during the show!
